Asahi launching self-foaming beer can in NZ

In a New Zealand first, Asahi Beverages NZ is bringing the Asahi Super Dry self-foaming draught beer can to Kiwis for a limited time.

“Nama Jokki”, which translates to “fresh beer mug’, is Asahi Super Dry premium beer sealed in an innovative can that releases a silky foam when opened at the right temperature.

it is the first time Nama Jokki has been sold outside Asia and is available for order now and launching on the New Zealand market later this month.

Asahi Beverages NZ General Manager Marketing, Oliver Downs, says Nama Jokki will provide a first-of-its-kind experience for beer drinkers in New Zealand over spring and into summer. “This breakthrough innovation is the latest major initiative for the Asahi Super Dry beer brand in New Zealand, following up from a bumper year as the official beer of the Rugby World Cup 2023.

“We will continue to invest in Asahi Super Dry in New Zealand to get this great brand into the hands of more Kiwi beer drinkers, and this accelerated launch of Nama Jokki highlights our brand commitment,” says Downs.

The self-foaming is caused by a non-uniform surface inside the can that causes bubbles to form naturally when the lid is opened. These bubbles rise to the top, forming the foam head that helps lock in freshness and taste, similar to an Asahi Super Dry on tap.

The can lid lifts off completely to reveal a smooth edge, creating an open vessel that can be drunk from directly. The innovation behind Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki took four years to develop in Japan. (See more here.)

Asahi Super Dry Nama Jokki comes in a 6-pack of 340ml cans. It is expected to retail for $18-20.
