Back-to-back wins for Kiwi brewers at AIBA

Kiwi breweries have again dominated the three international categories at this year’s 2024 Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards.

For the second year in a row, Garage Project, Behemoth Brewing, and Three Sisters Brewery were named the Champion International Breweries (Large, Medium and Small, respectively).

The Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) programme is the world’s largest beer competition that assesses both draught and packaged beer, as well as design and media. This year, the awards attracted over 2,500 beer entries from 400 plus breweries from 23 countries, judged by 84 beer experts from around the globe.

Garage Project also won three Champion trophies with Champion International Beer and Champion Belgian/French-Style Ale for Chance, Luck & Magic 2021, and Champion British/European Ale for its Pickle Beer.

The Garage Project team say they’re thrilled with winning the Champion Large Brewery title for the second year running. “Winning back-to-back Champion Large Brewery trophies is a real testament to the quality and consistency of the Garage Project brewery team,” said Garage Project Co-Founder Pete Gillespie. “As the underdog going up against the largest breweries in the world with vast resources, to win back-to-back titles is really special,” added Garage Project Co-Founder Jos Ruffell.

New South Wales’ Stone & Wood Brewing Co. won Champion Australian Beer for their Hinterland Big Pale, which also took out Best Australian Style Pale Ale.

Melbourne’s Brick Lane Brewing was named Champion Victorian Brewery and Champion Large Australian Brewery.

Other major award winners were Dollar Bill Brewing (Victoria) with the Australian Gypsy Brewer Award, while King Road Brewing Co (Western Australia) won Champion Small Australian Brewery and Kaiju! Beer (Victoria) won Champion Medium Australian Brewery.
