Chardonnay Symposium announced for Hawke’s Bay

The inaugural Aotearoa New Zealand Chardonnay Symposium is to be held in Te Matau-a-Māui Hawke’s Bay on 5-6 October 2023.

The event is being organised by Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers in collaboration with New Zealand Winegrowers and the New Zealand Society of Oenology and Viticulture.

The group says that Chardonnay is one of New Zealand’s most important varietals and with its spiritual home being Hawke’s Bay it is only fitting that the region hosts the event.

It says the two-day symposium will provide a forum for the wine community to assess: “where we are at and where we would like to go in the journey to making exceptional Chardonnay”.

The symposium will bring together a national audience from the wine community to hear and share knowledge on the domestic and global trends in Chardonnay.

It will be held at Toitoi: Hawke’s Bay Arts and Event Centre in Hastings where delegates will have the opportunity to hear from local and international Chardonnay experts.

The NZSVO will deliver a technical workshop on Chardonnay on Day One, with an internationally-focused perspective on Day Two.

HBWG will also host the “Great New Zealand Chardonnay Celebration” in the newly refurbished laneways precinct of Toitoi on the evening of the 5th of October.
