Kiwi wines make Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2024

Four New Zealand wines have been selected for Wine Spectator’s Top 100 of 2024.

Each year, the Wine Spectator editors survey the wines reviewed over the previous 12 months and select their Top 100 based on quality, value, availability and excitement.

They describe the Top 100 list as: “…a diverse group—ranging from emerging labels and regions to traditional estates exploring new directions—and all generate the excitement we call the “X-factor.”

The four New Zealand wines are:

  • #11 Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough Te Muna 2023

  • #41 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2023

  • #82 Invivo Pinot Noir Marlborough X, Sarah Jessica Parker

  • #84 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir Central Otago Moonlight Race 2022

Whitehaven is celebrating its position as the only Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc on the list, with Chief Winemaker Peter Jackson noting that the wine captures the essence of Marlborough’s three sub regions.

“Aromatically, the wine reflects the sub regional diversity that Whitehaven sources its fruit from, taking in parcels from all three Marlborough sub regions,” says Peter. “A large portion of fruit in our blend comes from the Awatere Valley which creates a bedrock of ripe green flavours and freshness upon which we layer aromatic notes and textures from other areas. All fruit is carefully combined to create, in our view, the quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, with intensity, vibrancy and concentration.”
