NZ Cider Festival cancels

The 2021 NZ Cider Festival has been cancelled, with two weeks until the event was due to take place in Hawke’s Bay.

In a statement, the NZ Cider Festival organising committee along with the NZ Fruit Wine Cider Makers Association said they were disappointed to announce that due to the shift to ‘Red’ and the ongoing uncertainty and risks associated with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, they had made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 NZ Cider Festival, which was due to happen on 12th February at the Tomoana Showgrounds in Hawke’s Bay.

The Festival had already been postponed from last November, due to COVID-19. A statement on the Festival website says that all tickets will be automatically refunded.

Festival Director, Shelley Haring said: “This was a heart-breaking decision to have to make, especially as we have already had to postpone the festival once.

“Advance ticket sales for the festival indicated that people were excited to get together and celebrate the best of New Zealand cider. However, with the festival being so close and the uncertainty around when large festivals can happen, it makes it difficult to plan ahead to ensure there is no further impact for our event, our cider producers, sponsors, suppliers and our attendees, and so we had to make the call now.”

The Festival Organising team says it will now start planning for the 2022 Festival, due to be held in Nelson in November.
