Cardrona launches The Reid cocktail competition

Cardrona Distillery has launched a competition for bartenders from across the US, UK and New Zealand to create a signature cocktail using The Reid Single Malt Vodka.

The Reid Global Cocktail Competition has four phases, with the first being an entry period that opened on 1 February and runs until 29 March 2024. Bartenders can submit their cocktail via an entry form on The Reid website at thereid.co.nz.

A grand final for the championship title will be held in New Zealand in October with the final 12 bartenders.

“This competition is a celebration of the bartending community and we look forward to celebrating all the wonderful The Reid cocktails and the bartenders who’ve made them,” says Desiree Reid, Managing Director of Cardrona Distillery.

“The lucky 12 who make it to the grand final round can look forward to the trip of a lifetime as we introduce them to all the amazing sights and adventures this region has to offer, along with the opportunity to visit the home of The Reid.”

The Reid Vodka is a single malt vodka made from alpine water from Mount Cardrona, barley from the Canterbury plains, and distiller’s yeast. The rich single malt vodka has notes of pear drops, lemon, toffee and malt biscuits.

“Our terroir here in the Cardrona Valley, combined with the raw materials we use, imparts unique characteristics that result in a decadently rich, weighted spirit,” says Reid. “The Reid is a beautiful vodka filled with character and flavour, which lends itself to special and unique crafted cocktails.”
