Strange Nature gin offers recycling system for hospo
New Zealand gin brand Strange Nature has launched a nationwide recycling programme for hospitality in which its distinctive bottles can be reused and refilled time and again.
It says that empty Strange Nature bottles will be collected from hospitality venues and returned to the bottling line in Marlborough where they will be washed and refilled, before making their way back out to bars and restaurants around the country.
“Our hospitality recycling program is one of the steps we’re taking to ensure we live up to Strange Nature’s intention to minimise environmental impact,” says Rhys Julian, General Manager of Strange Nature Distillery.
“We want to make it easier for our on-premise customers to make sustainable decisions for their businesses and their customers. We know we’re not perfect in our practices, but we’re committed to the journey and continuous improvement, and early feedback from our customers is positive about the steps we’re taking.”
Strange Nature is a grape-based gin that is traceable from grape to glass. It is made from the alcohol extracted during the creation of 0% alcohol Sauvignon Blanc, using spinning cone technology. The pure white spirit is then distilled with juniper to create a distinctive gin with the hallmark notes of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Since its launch a year ago, Strange Nature has won the Innovation Award at the New Zealand Spirit Awards 2022, a Gold Medal at the international Gin Masters Competition in London and a Special Commendation for design and packaging at The Drinks Business Awards in London.
Rhys Julian says the gin is seeing significant growth in New Zealand across hospitality and retail, as well as entering the Australian and US markets. “We’ve recently achieved national listings across Australia with distribution in 260 Dan Murphy stores, complemented by listings in two international airport duty free retailers in Australia from January 2023. Strange Nature will also be available in six key US states from April 2023 – New York, Georgia, California, Texas, Florida and Colorado – and we have plans to expand further in coming months.”
